Imagimals night light

01  ·  The Object

A night light shaped
by your imagination.

Modular wooden blocks with embedded magnets produce a "magic" light — the color shifts with each arrangement. Your Imagimal becomes a guardian of your most special memories while you dream.

Modular
wooden blocks snap together magnetically — every configuration creates a new creature and a new color
RGB
LED lighting shifts automatically based on which blocks are connected and how they're arranged
3 wks
from raw lumber and components to a fully working, hand-finished prototype ready for use

02  ·  Overview

Hardware meets
handcraft.

Imagimals glowing in the dark

Designed and soldered from scratch — Hall sensors read magnet position, Arduino interprets the signal, RGB LEDs respond in real time.

Electronics
Designed and soldered interactive circuitry — Hall sensors, RGB LEDs, Arduino, I2C protocol.
Physical
Fabricated wood enclosure with embedded magnets, hand-cut and finished over three weeks.
Integration
Iterated through multiple hardware prototypes to marry the electronics seamlessly inside the form.
Stack
Arduino · Hall Effect Sensors · RGB LEDs · I2C · Hand-cut wood · Embedded magnets

03  ·  Process

Three versions.
One that works.

Three weeks of sawdust, solder, and iteration — shaping both the physical enclosure and the electronics inside it until they felt like one seamless object.

v1
Proof of Concept

Basic Arduino circuit on a breadboard with a loose wooden shell. Confirmed the Hall sensor logic worked but the form felt rough and unfinished.

v2
Enclosure Rethink

Cut and shaped a tighter enclosure. Embedded magnets more precisely. Electronics still exposed — needed a cleaner internal layout.

v3
Final Form

Soldered final circuit, routed wiring internally, and hand-finished the wood. The object felt intentional — both as a toy and as a night light.

04  ·  Final Design

The finished
object.

A hand-built modular night light that responds to how you build it — color, brightness, and mood shift with every new configuration.
